We've visited the Bahiazul Resort in Corralejo, Fuerteventura, twice – once with friends and once even with the grandparents in tow. This alone shows how flexible and family-friendly this complex is: whether it's a large family or a multi-generational trip, everyone feels at home here.

Bahiazul Resort: Private Villas with Private Pools

What's special about Bahiazul is its concept: instead of classic hotel rooms, you stay in detached, whitewashed villas in the typical Spanish style – with pretty archways, bright interiors, and great attention to detail. Each villa has its own private pool, and some villas also have a hot tub on the rooftop terrace. Especially in the evenings, when the children were already in bed, this was a small luxury that we as parents thoroughly enjoyed.

It was precisely this sense of design and well-being that impressed us most during both our stays: bright, calm rooms, natural materials like wood and marble, and yet a relaxed, unpretentious atmosphere that is perfect for a holiday with children. You don't have to compromise on anything, without it feeling sterile or overdressed.

Self-catering or Half Board – Just as You Like

Each villa has a fully equipped kitchen, so you can cater for yourselves – practical if you want to remain flexible with small children and cook your own meals. If you prefer things to be simpler, you can alternatively book half board and have breakfast and dinner at the resort's restaurant. We tried both options during our two stays and were satisfied each time – the flexibility here makes Bahiazul suitable for a wide range of family needs.

Equally Suitable for Families and Grandparents

When we arrived with the grandparents, we had booked one of the larger villas with several bedrooms – ideal for everyone to have their own retreat, but still meet at the shared pool and on the terrace. Especially for multi-generational trips, the resort's concept is perfect: everyone has enough privacy, while at the same time spending a lot of time together during the day by their own pool, instead of having to share a complex pool with many other guests.

Small Playground and Short Walks to the Beach

On the premises, there's a small playground where our children loved to run around before heading back to the villa. And the location is also great: in a few minutes, you can reach the beach or the Corralejo Dunes Natural Park on foot or by car. A rental car is still recommended, as the complex is located a little outside the center of Corralejo and you'll want to be mobile for excursions on the island anyway.

What You Can Experience on Fuerteventura with Children

Fuerteventura has a lot to offer families – here are some of our highlights:

• Corralejo Dunes: Located right on Bahiazul's doorstep – a natural spectacle that even the little ones love. Perfect for romping, building sandcastles, or simply marveling.
• Isla de Lobos: A boat trip to the small neighboring island is a great adventure for the whole family, with clear waters and calm coves.
• Oasis Park Fuerteventura: A wildlife park with a bird show, camel rides, and many animals to discover – a classic for an action-packed family day.
• El Cotillo: The lagoons of El Cotillo with their shallow, turquoise waters are ideal for splashing with small children, while older children can try their hand at surfing on the wave beaches next door.
• Betancuria: The historic mountain village in the island's interior shows a completely different Fuerteventura – nice for a quieter day trip with a bit of culture.
• Surf and Bodyboard Lessons: Fuerteventura is known for its consistent winds and waves – many surf schools offer special lessons for children and beginners.

Best Travel Time and Flight Duration to Fuerteventura

One of the big advantages of Fuerteventura as a travel destination with children: the short flight time. From most German airports, you'll be on the island in about 4 to 4.5 hours – significantly more relaxed than many other long-haul destinations, especially with small children in tow.

Fuerteventura also excels climatically: thanks to its proximity to Africa, there are mild temperatures all year round, usually between 20 and 28 degrees Celsius. This makes the island one of the few European destinations that is truly suitable for a beach holiday with children all year round – even in winter, when it's grey and cold at home.

Precisely this combination of short travel time, stable climate, and the multitude of child-friendly beaches and activities makes Fuerteventura one of the most uncomplicated and rewarding travel destinations with children for us. We've been to Fuerteventura with kids 4 times already, which says it all, doesn't it?
