Daios Cove in Crete: Luxury Meets Family Hotel

There are family hotels that are practical. And then there are hotels that look like a luxury hotel but offer everything families need for a perfect vacation. For us, Daios Cove in Crete was exactly such a place. We were there for four days in May and came back completely relaxed. And anyone who has traveled with children knows: that's perhaps the biggest compliment you can give a family hotel.

The Daios Cove is located in a private bay near Agios Nikolaos in the east of the island. Even the approach is special: the resort is built in terraces into the rocks, below which lies the turquoise sea, and at the very bottom, a sheltered, private sandy beach awaits. This location is precisely what makes Daios Cove one of the most beautiful luxury hotels for families in Crete. The bay is turquoise blue and the place is simply uniquely beautiful.

If you are planning a family vacation in Crete with children and at the same time desire relaxation, design, good food, wellness, and genuine comfort, you absolutely must know about this hotel.

Daios Cove Crete: Luxurious Family Hotel in a Private Bay

What makes Daios Cove special is the combination of luxury and ease. Many high-end hotels quickly feel a bit tense with children. You constantly wonder if the children are too loud, if they are welcome in the restaurant, or if you can even relax. At Daios Cove, we never had this feeling! Probably 70% of the guests were families with small children, and someone was always crying or having a little tantrum somewhere. It didn't bother anyone.

The resort is elegant, modern, and very high-quality, but at the same time incredibly family-friendly. Children are naturally part of the experience here. There's a Kids Club, a playground, child-friendly restaurants, a pool, a children's pool, family accommodations, and many small services that make everyday life on vacation easier.

Location: Daios Cove near Agios Nikolaos in Eastern Crete

The Daios Cove is located in the northeast of Crete, in the Lassithi region, not far from Agios Nikolaos. This area of Crete is known for beautiful bays, clear waters, relaxed coastal towns, and a somewhat quieter atmosphere than some of the island's very touristy regions. If you're traveling by rental car, a trip to Plaka (30 min), a small fishing village with fantastic restaurants, is definitely worthwhile, and the Vouslisma Beach, only 10 minutes away, is also worth a visit!

The resort's private bay is, for me, the heart of the hotel. The sea here is protected, the water shimmers in beautiful blue and turquoise tones, and the beach is directly accessible from the hotel.

If you're looking for a hotel in Crete with a private bay, beach, pool, and luxurious family comfort, Daios Cove offers an exceptionally beautiful combination.

Rooms, Suites and Villas at Daios Cove

Daios Cove features a total of 271 rooms, suites, and villas. The accommodations are modern, bright, and very spacious. It's particularly nice that many rooms and suites have sea views, and many accommodations have a private saltwater pool.

Design lovers should definitely check out the newly renovated Collection Rooms and Suites. We had a Collection Junior Suite with a private pool, which was ideal for 2 adults and 2 children.

For a luxury vacation in Crete with children, the suites and villas are particularly appealing. They offer more space, more privacy, and often their own pool. Especially with children, it's simply a dream.

Many Rooms and Villas with Private Pool

A big plus of Daios Cove are the many accommodations with their own pool. For families, a private pool on vacation is a real luxury, because it makes the day so much more flexible. You don't always have to pack everything, look for loungers, and can even stay in the room for an hour and relax.

The Beach at Daios Cove: Sheltered, Tranquil, and Perfect for Families

The beach at Daios Cove is located directly in the resort's private bay. Everything is manageable, the water is shallow and calm. This is a great advantage for families, as you can easily keep an eye on children and distances are short.

The water was clear and beautiful during our stay in May. There are sun loungers, parasols, and service on the beach. So you can spend the day between the sea, sand, snacks, and swimming. For me, this is one of the biggest advantages of Daios Cove: you don't have to plan every day or organize excursions. The most beautiful place is right on your doorstep, and you don't even want to leave the hotel. And for us to say something like that, it means something!

Pools and Water Activities at Daios Cove

In addition to the private beach, Daios Cove has a large seawater infinity pool with views of the bay. Right next to it is a small children's pool, and a little further up there is an adults-only pool.

Depending on the season and weather conditions, guests can enjoy activities such as stand-up paddleboarding, kayaking, jet skiing, snorkeling, or other water sports.

Restaurants at Daios Cove: Culinary Delights for Families and Gourmets

One of the main reasons why Daios Cove is so special to me is its culinary offerings. We have NEVER eaten so well from morning to night. Foodies will absolutely love it here. The resort has several restaurants and bars with different concepts. This means that even during a longer stay, you can always eat differently and discover new places within the resort.

The restaurants and bars include:

Pangea
Pangea is the resort's main restaurant. It serves breakfast and dinner buffet style. The selection is large, international, and varied.

Taverna
The Taverna serves Greek and Cretan cuisine. For me, it's one of the most beautiful places in the resort, as you can enjoy Mediterranean food and a magnificent view of the bay at the same time.

Ocean Restaurant
The Ocean Restaurant is more elegant and ideal for a special dinner. Fine dining is the focus here.

RHO Restaurant
The RHO Restaurant is a fine-dining concept and more suitable for families with older children.

Beach House
The Beach House is located directly on the beach and is perfect for relaxed meals in a casual atmosphere. We ate lunch here every day because it was so relaxed with the kids.

Dining at Daios Cove: Half Board or Residents’ Club

At Daios Cove, there are various meal plans available, depending on the booked category and offer. Rooms include half board. Suites and villas include the Residents Club.

The Residents’ Club offers a particularly comprehensive, luxurious all-inclusive experience with many extras. These include, depending on booking and category, meals in various restaurants, drinks, minibar, and room service.

Spa and Wellness at Daios Cove: Relaxation for Parents

The KĒPOS by Goco Spa is one of the most innovative spas in the Mediterranean with state-of-the-art technology. It offers treatment rooms, pools, thermal areas, fitness facilities, and various wellness treatments. I participated in a sound healing session and was truly completely amazed. I even fell asleep, which has never happened to me before, and afterwards I was as deeply relaxed as I haven't been in a long time!

The philosophy of Daios Cove: Everyone finds their own rhythm

The children play, swim, and explore. Parents relax, enjoy good food, exercise, or unwind in the spa. You can spend time together as a family and still have a little personal space.

At Daios Cove, everyone can find what they need: peace, adventure, indulgence, sun, sea, or simply a little break from everyday life. Even though the hotel is absolutely family-friendly, there are adults-only areas everywhere, such as the RHO Restaurant, the Taverna for adults-only breakfast, an adults-only area in the Pangea Restaurant, and an adults-only pool.

Although Daios Cove is large, its terraced construction, natural colors, and integration into the rocks prevent it from appearing oversized. Everywhere you look, you see the sea. You wake up to sea views, have breakfast overlooking the bay, and experience the most beautiful sunset colors in the evening.

Perfect Travel Time for Daios Cove?

We were at Daios Cove in May, and for us, this travel time was ideal. Crete in May is wonderfully sunny and pleasantly warm, but not yet as hot as in mid-summer.

Especially with children, I find May in Crete very pleasant. You can be outdoors a lot without being roasted by the sun. Ideal for beach days, pool time, and excursions to Agios Nikolaos.

If you prefer it a bit quieter and have the opportunity, you should travel in June, September, or October outside of school holidays.

The resort is generally open from late April to early November.

My Conclusion: Daios Cove is Perfect for a Luxury Family Holiday in Crete

After our four days in May, I can say: Daios Cove in Crete is for me a nearly perfect hotel for families who desire luxury, relaxation, and child-friendliness.

It is ideal for parents who don't want to forgo design, good food, a spa, and comfort. And it's just as ideal for children who love the beach, pool, Kids Club, ice cream, the sea, and a little action. We came back completely relaxed, and that doesn't happen automatically on a family vacation.
