Why Is Cheas is so special for families

Is Cheas isn't a classic family resort with entertainment teams and buffet bustle. It's a quiet, very thoughtfully designed wine estate where families get their privacy and yet everything is there for the kids.

A little kingdom of your own for every family. Each Family Lodge has its own garden with a private pool and a warm outdoor shower.

Two bedrooms instead of an extra bed. Parents sleep in the double room. The kids have their own room with two single beds, separated by sliding doors. For babies, a cot is available on request.

Supervised kids' programme, already included in the price. From May to October there's a programme with trained educators on three evenings a week. It includes treasure hunts through the sensory gardens, team games, kite-making and visits to the farm animals. Afterwards the kids get their own menu from the chef. Meanwhile, the parents have time for a wine tasting or a massage in the garden.

Farm feeling with horses. Horses and other farm animals live on the estate. Kids can watch the daily training, and there's a horse experience you can book.

A large shared pool. As well as the private pools, there's a large pool right in the middle of the vineyards. At lunchtime, the Cottage Pool Bar serves light meals there.

Small and quiet. With only around twelve units, Is Cheas is the opposite of a mass-market hotel. That's ideal for families looking for peace, nature and good food.

The accommodation: Family Lodges, Pinnette and Farmhouse Suites

Family Lodges (approx. 120 m², 2 adults + 2 children)
The lodges are the newest type of accommodation and the first choice for families. They have about 40 m² of indoor space, around 60 m² of garden and a pool area of approx. 20 m². They were designed by G&U Architects together with local craftspeople. The architecture picks up the shapes and colours of the landscape, with sand, wood and straw.

Pinnette Suites
The Pinnette are inspired by Sardinia's traditional round shepherds' huts and all have their own pool and garden. The largest is the Family Suite S'Arrubia (190 m² including garden and pool, for 2 adults, 2 children and a cot). The Superior Suite Sa Grogu suits a family with two children. The Junior Suite Sa Birde suits a family with one child.

Farmhouse Suites
The main house has two smaller suites without their own pool, which are better suited to couples.

Good to know: In the cooler months, from around October, the private pools are heated. That makes Is Cheas appealing for the autumn break too.

Food & wine: farm-to-table on the wine estate

The cuisine is one of the main reasons to travel to Is Cheas. Every evening there's a four-course menu with vegetables from the estate's own organic garden plus meat and fish from the region. Fresh pasta is made in-house every day, for example Sardinian culurgiones. There are separate menus for kids.

Breakfast is generous and regional, with eggs, ricotta, Sardinian honey, cheese, bread from local bakeries and fresh fruit. Breakfast and dinner are included in half board. You pay extra for lunch and drinks.

Is Cheas grows its own Sardinian grape varieties and offers red, white and rosé wines with DOC and IGT status.

Experiences for the whole family

  • Horse experience: get up close to the horses and watch them train
  • Cooking class: make pasta by hand together.
  • Sensory gardens: smell, touch and discover herbs and lavender
  • Wellness for parents: massages in the garden, ideally while the kids' programme is running
  • Wine tour & tasting: for the grown-ups

Location: Sinis Peninsula, flamingos and ancient culture

Is Cheas lies in the west of Sardinia, in the countryside near San Vero Milis, surrounded by vineyards and olive groves. The west coast is wilder and far less crowded than the well-known Costa Smeralda in the north-east.

In the area:

  • Beaches of the Sinis Peninsula in approx. 15 minutes, known for their clear water
  • Lagoons and wetlands with flamingos, a highlight for kids
  • Water sports: the west coast is a great spot for surfing, windsurfing and snorkelling

Getting there: Cagliari and Alghero airports are each about an hour away by car. A hire car is highly recommended.

Who is Is Cheas ideal for?

Perfect for:

  • Families with a baby, toddler or primary-school child looking for peace and privacy
  • Parents who love good food and wine and still want a relaxed trip with kids
  • Families who want to experience Sardinia away from the tourist hotspots
  • Animal-loving kids

Less suited to:

  • Families looking for a big resort with an all-day kids' club, water slides or a beach right on the doorstep
  • Families without a hire car

Best time to visit

May, June and September to October are ideal. That's when the kids' programme runs, it's warm but not too hot, and the beaches are empty. In July and August it's hot, and that's when the private pools are worth their weight in gold. From October the pools are heated.
