Two years ago, over the New Year, we spent 2 weeks in the Cape region of South Africa with our kids. Our base was a place that, in retrospect, was almost as wonderful as the excursions themselves: an exceptional Airbnb near Cape Town – quietly located, thoughtfully designed, and perfect for a family trip. If you are also planning a trip to South Africa with kids, then you should not miss our South Africa (Cape Region) with Kids Travel Guide.
The House: Plenty of Space, Light, and a Homely Feel
The modern, open-plan house doesn't feel cluttered; everything is functional and aesthetically pleasing at the same time. Ideal when traveling with children but still valuing design.
2 Bedrooms & Kids' Room, Space for up to 8 People
-
Master Bedroom: Generously sized, quietly located, and with a view of the courtyard. A shower is integrated stylishly into the unique design in the middle of the room.
-
Another Bedroom with a double bed, so you can easily share the Airbnb with 2 families.
-
Kids' Room: Perfect for families. Our children had their own retreat with 2 bunk beds, providing space for 4 children.
Especially on longer trips, this much space is invaluable: parental time and family time coexist naturally here.
Living Area & Kitchen
The open living and dining area is the heart of the house. Large window fronts bring the surroundings indoors, and no matter where you sit, you always feel a sense of spaciousness. In the living area, you'll find a play corner with many toys. The fully equipped kitchen, including a washing machine, was ideal for us to cook ourselves in a relaxed manner, especially with children and after long days out.
Garden, Pool, and Sea View, Being Outdoors is Part of It
A real highlight is also the outdoor area:
-
a large, fenced garden with plenty of space for children
-
a pool, which provided cooling, especially on warm days
-
sea view from the pool and the terrace
And in the evenings, those sunsets, simply a dream with a glass of good wine and a BBQ. As is typical for South Africa, you naturally also have a grill on the terrace.
Scarborough: Quiet, Safe, and Still Close Enough to the City
Scarborough is not a typical tourist destination and is located a little away from the city center. And that's exactly what convinced us. Little traffic, lots of nature, a relaxed community, and proximity to the sea characterize the place. For families, this means: safety, tranquility, and yet you are close to the city and many popular excursion destinations.
The accommodation also has an alarm system so you can feel particularly safe.
Perfect Location for Excursions in the Cape Region
For us, it was the ideal base to explore the Cape region. Many highlights can be easily reached as a day trip:
-
Cape of Good Hope – approx. 15 km
-
Boulders Beach (Penguins) – approx. 25 km
-
Noordhoek Beach – approx. 10 km
-
Hout Bay – approx. 25 km
-
Kalk Bay & Simon’s Town – approx. 20–25 km
-
Cape Town City Center – approx. 40 km
Especially with children, this location was perfect: an excursion in the morning, back to the pool or garden in the afternoon. No constant changing of accommodation and no stress.
Our Conclusion: The Ideal Airbnb in South Africa with Children
It's no coincidence that this Airbnb is one of the absolute community favorites worldwide! For us, it's one of the best Airbnbs in South Africa, especially for families. The combination of a thoughtfully designed house, pool & garden, sea view, tranquility, and at the same time good access to the highlights of the Cape region is rare.
