Serry Beach Resort Hurghada: Aesthetic Family Hotel in Egypt

A big resort on the Egyptian coast often means mass tourism, the smell of chlorine and overcrowded pools. The Serry Beach Resort in Hurghada is a welcome exception. We stayed there with our two children and found a hotel that takes family holidays seriously. Not just when it comes to the kids' club, but also in terms of what matters to parents on holiday.

Design meets family-friendliness

The first thing you notice when you step into the Serry Beach Resort? The thoughtful, aesthetic design. The resort has a visual style all its own.

The grounds themselves are spacious and spread out. This is important to understand: this is not a compact boutique resort where you can walk everywhere in five minutes. With kids, you should be aware that getting from your room to the beach, from breakfast to the pool and from the entertainment area to the kids' club can take a few minutes. We didn't find that a drawback – more of an advantage. Because all that space also means nowhere ever feels overcrowded.

The pools: relaxation without the crowds

Two pools, and both completely relaxed. That's one of the big plus points of the Serry Beach Resort. While other resorts pack their guests into a pool like fish in an aquarium, here you can actually swim. Our kids switched between both pools depending on their mood and the time of day. And we always got a sun lounger without the annoying lounger reserving. A big plus in a package hotel like this.

The food: no tummy troubles, just great cuisine!

One of the biggest worries when travelling to Egypt with kids is the classic “will something not agree with our stomachs?" We had zero tummy problems here during our entire stay. Not us, not the kids.

The food at the Serry Beach Resort is extremely good. The variety of dishes is huge, and the quality is consistent. There are international classics, Egyptian specialities and always plenty of options for picky eaters too.

Kids' club & entertainment: pottery, games and movie nights

What did our kids remember most? The pottery. Yes, really: pottery, on the beach, in a family hotel. We still have the bowls and mini figures at home. Such a sweet souvenir, right?

On top of that there's the classic entertainment programme (games, competitions, dances) as well as movie nights.

The aqua park: the perfect extra

The highlight for the kids was the aqua park at the hotel across the road, which you can use during your stay at the Serry Beach Resort. The water park has several slides for all age groups. Of course, our kids wanted to go every day. The nice thing: the noise of an aqua park stays with the hotel opposite. At the Serry Beach Resort, it remains wonderfully quiet.

Excursions from Hurghada: organising them yourself pays off

The resort offers excursions, but we organised ours ourselves online. That gives you more flexibility and often better prices.

Snorkelling tour with dolphins: choose your operator carefully

A snorkelling tour with dolphin watching is magical if you have the right operator. But that's the key point: you need to be very careful which operator you choose. There are differences in professionalism, safety and also in how ethically the dolphins are treated.

Do your research in advance, read reviews, and don't blindly book the cheapest operator. The difference between a fantastic tour and a problematic one is often small, but crucial.

The Luxor day trip: special, tiring too, but unforgettable!

The resort is also a good base for day trips or short getaways. We took a trip to Luxor, to the temples and the history of Ancient Egypt.

I have to be honest here: it was tiring. Long walks, lots of heat, a lot of input for kids. But it was also very, very special. These are the experiences your child will never forget. Luxor is real culture, real history, real adventure.

Important: Luxor with kids only works at the right time of year. In spring (March/April) and autumn (September/October) it's doable. In summer? Absolutely not a good idea. The temperatures are so extreme then that even adults reach their limits.

Practical tips for your stay

Adapt your packing list: Sun protection is your best friend. Not just sunscreen – also UV shirts, hats and sunglasses for kids.

Plan with the kids: The spacious grounds are lovely, but with little ones you should plan deliberately where you're going and when. A buggy can be handy, even if your kids don't usually need one anymore.

Book excursions wisely: Choose operators carefully, read reviews and pick trustworthy, ethical providers.

Verdict: just right for families who want more than a run-of-the-mill Egypt hotel

The Serry Beach Resort in Hurghada is not the biggest, not the cheapest and not the most spectacular resort in Egypt. But it's certainly one of the most beautiful, and one where you have a very low risk of stomach bugs.

The thoughtful style, the uncrowded pools, the genuinely good food, the kids' club with real activities, the aqua park – Egypt is a fantastic destination for families. And the Serry Beach Resort is a fantastic hotel for it.
