Last weekend we stayed at the Vitalhotel Edelweiss in Neustift in the Stubai Valley ourselves. We stayed in the beautiful, brand-new Landhaus family chalet. The hotel combines two things that often don't go together on a family holiday: the kids have their own pool and playroom, and the parents still get genuine moments of peace.
The 4-star superior hotel has been run by the same family since 1958. It's located in the village of Krössbach at around 1,100 metres above sea level, surrounded by forest and meadows, with views of the glacier. With 57 rooms and suites, the hotel is a manageable size. It doesn't feel like a huge hotel complex.
Our room: the family chalet in the Landhaus
The rooms have been newly renovated, and you can tell. The Landhaus is a separate building. It's in a quiet spot but directly connected to the main building and the wellness and spa area. The suites in the Landhaus are decorated in warm colours and offer plenty of space. And the very best thing for me: the glorious mountain view! Snuggling up in a blanket on the terrace with a coffee in the morning before the kids woke up was one of my favourite moments. The farm cat also came by to say hello every morning, which the kids of course absolutely loved!
The new indoor family pool and the heated outdoor pool
The highlight for the kids was the brand-new indoor family pool. It's a separate area just for families. The kids can splash about and be loud there without anyone in the quiet area rolling their eyes. There's also a sauna from which you can keep a direct eye on the children's area. Win-win! You enjoy the sauna, the kids splash around. We always went for a dip in the pool early in the morning, right after breakfast, and had the area completely to ourselves twice.
Outside there's an outdoor pool that's heated all year round. There's a time slot in the morning and one in the afternoon when families can use the outdoor pool. The rest of the day, the outdoor pool is adults only.
Retreats for grown-ups
The Edelweiss is not purely a family hotel. That's an advantage. The spa area covers around 1,300 m², with a Finnish sauna, saltwater steam bath, Kneipp pool and a panoramic relaxation room with waterbeds. That's calling out for some mum time-out, right?
Kids' playroom and offers for families
For bad weather or before dinner there's a kids' playroom. For older children there's a teen room and an adventure playground, plus a games room with table tennis, billiards and table football. In winter, the hotel can also arrange ski lessons.
3/4 board: you don't have to cook
The Edelweiss is not a self-catering chalet. So you don't have to shop or cook. Meals include a gourmet breakfast, an afternoon snack and a 6-course dinner. The kitchen works with regional produce as well as organic meat and eggs from the hotel's own farm. With kids, the afternoon snack is worth its weight in gold. After an outing, nobody gets grumpy because they're too hungry.
Activities in the Stubai Valley and the Stubai Super Card
The Stubai Valley is ideal for families because so much is close together. Hiking and cycling trails start right at the hotel. In summer, the Serlesbahn and the kids' activities at Schlick 2000 and on the Elfer are well worth it. Since summer 2026 the Elfer has been home to the Elfercoaster, a rail-mounted toboggan run that feels like a roller coaster. From October to May, the Stubai Glacier is Austria's largest glacier ski area. We tried out the Serlesbahnen and Schlick 2000 and were more than thrilled with what they offer for kids! Treehouse trail, slide trail, disc trail, summer toboggan run – you're guaranteed not to get bored here.
The Stubai Super Card is very handy. In summer 2026 it's valid from 14 May to 1 November. It includes one ride up and down per day on the Stubai Glacier cable car, the Serlesbahnen, Schlick 2000 and the Elferbahnen. On top of that, you get free rides on the IVB buses between Mutterberg and Innsbruck and on the Stubaitalbahn, two 3-hour visits per week to the StuBay leisure pool and one ride per week on the Mieders summer toboggan run. Children under 10 ride free on the glacier when accompanied by a paying parent.
If you stay at Hotel Edelweiß, the Stubai Card is included!
Our verdict
The Vitalhotel Edelweiss is the right choice for families looking for a hotel with excellent service and good food, without it having to be a kids' hotel. It's ideal for active families who want peace and relaxation when they "come home". We especially liked that the kids have their own area with the family pool. That means peace and wellness for the grown-ups, without anyone having to feel guilty.
