WOW Surf House Taghazout: in the Heart of a Moroccan Fishing Village

Not every place you stay on a Morocco road trip needs a pool, a spa and XL rooms. Sometimes it's exactly the opposite that makes a trip unforgettable: staying right in the middle of real village life, waking up to the sound of the waves and strolling barefoot along the beach promenade to dinner in the evening. That's exactly what we experienced at the WOW Surf House in Taghazout, and for us it was clear: it's not a place for every family stage, but for active families with a baby or with older kids who love surfing and a real Moroccan vibe, it's almost unbeatable.

If you're planning your Morocco road trip to combine the coast, Marrakech and the desert, the WOW Surf House is a great – and above all affordable – building block for the coastal leg.

The location: right in the thick of it

The WOW Surf House sits right on the beach promenade of Taghazout, the small former fishing village that has become one of Morocco's best-known surf spots over the past few decades. Unlike many resorts on the edge of town or a little further out, here you're truly at the centre of the action: surf shops, little cafés, fishing boats and locals right on your doorstep. From the terrace you look out over the Atlantic and the surfers sharing the waves in front of the house.

If you're looking for peace and seclusion, this isn't the place for you. But if you want to experience the real, buzzing Taghazout, you'll find it served up here more authentically than almost anywhere else.

The rooms: a small boutique house with big design

The WOW Surf House is deliberately kept small, with just seven individually designed rooms, all with sea views and their own access to one of the two terraces. Design is one of the house's great strengths: a warm, modern take on Moroccan style with handcrafted details, wicker lamps, exposed wood and local textiles – bright, airy and furnished with great attention to detail.

Important to know for your trip planning: the WOW Surf House has no pool. If your family wants to spend lots of time by a pool, factor that in or make up for it with a day trip. The Atlantic and the beach right on your doorstep more than make up for it, though.

Food: small restaurant, great cooking

The in-house restaurant was a real surprise for us. Moroccan classics like tagine and couscous are on the menu alongside international bistro dishes, fresh juices and a breakfast that leaves nothing to be desired. You eat on the terrace with a direct view of the waves – breakfast hardly gets a better setting. In the evening the atmosphere is relaxed and easy-going, perfect for families who just want a good meal and a sunset after an active day in the water.

Activities: made for surfers

As the name suggests, the WOW Surf House was made by surfers for surfers, and that's exactly the audience who'll get the most out of it:

  • Surf lessons for beginners to advanced surfers, organised directly through the house, ideal for teens and surf-loving families
  • Just a few minutes from Anchor Point, one of Morocco's best-known surf spots
  • Yoga on the roof terrace, a lovely counterbalance after time in the water
  • Trips to Paradise Valley and the surrounding area, which can be organised through the house
  • Village life: explore the cafés, countless restaurants, souvenir shops and the real Taghazout right outside the front door

For younger kids who can't surf or swim on their own yet, what's on offer is less tailored to them – there's no pool, no kids' club and no lazy afternoons on a pool lounger. For families with older children or teens who want to get on a board themselves, on the other hand, it's almost perfect.

Who is the WOW Surf House right for?

To be completely honest: the WOW Surf House isn't for every family set-up. It's best suited to active families or families with older children who love surfing, are keen on real village life and can do without a pool and classic resort facilities. For families with toddlers, or anyone who mainly wants to relax, other stops on our Morocco route – like the Agafay Luxury Camp or Alna Mogador – are a better fit.

In return, the WOW Surf House scores with unbeatable value for money: great design, very good food and a location you rarely find on Morocco's Atlantic coast – all at a price that's easy on the budget during a longer road trip.

Our verdict: real Taghazout, with the waves on your doorstep

The WOW Surf House isn't a luxury resort, but a small, lovingly designed boutique surf house right in the middle of everyday life in Taghazout. If you're travelling with older, active kids and value surfing, design and genuine Moroccan flair as much as a good price, you'll find one of the most authentic stops on your whole Morocco road trip here.

More from our Morocco trip: If you're heading on towards Marrakech or the desert after the WOW Surf House, you'll also find our reviews of the Agafay Luxury Camp and of two more coastal stops: Alna Mogador and the Radisson Blu Taghazout Bay – together they make a well-rounded Morocco road trip for families with very different needs.
